da dobrowin: With relegation from the Premier League a genuine possibility this season, West Ham United have clearly set out to make the most of the transfer window.
da bet7: Sure, they look set to lose the incredibly talented Lucas Paqueta, but the Hammers have made exciting additions to the team.
For example, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have signed Taty Castellanos from Lazio, who already has a goal in claret and blue, and Pablo Felipe from Portuguese side Gil Vicente.
However, West Ham aren’t done there, as they are now being linked with another forward who could be even better than both of their recent recruits.
West Ham target Castellanos & Pablo upgrade
There might only be a few days left until the transfer window closes, but West Ham are seemingly intent on further improving their squad.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
One deal that appears close to being completed is Adama Traore’s, with transfers expert Fabrizio Romano giving it the ‘here we go’ treatment over the weekend.
Additionally, the Hammers continue to be linked with a slew of talented centre-backs who could help tighten up their defence, like Axel Disasi and, more recently, Harry Maguire.
However, there is now another attacker in the East Londoners’ sights, someone who could be an even better signing than Castellanos & Pablo.
At least that is according to a recent report from Spanish publication AS, which claims West Ham are very interested in Ricardo Pepi.
In fact, the report has revealed that the Irons have already made informal contact with PSV Eindhoven over the player, suggesting their interest is significant.
However, the report has also revealed that Fulham are another very interested party and have already made an offer of around €32m, about £28m, which PSV are yet to respond to.
It could therefore become a costly and complicated transfer to get over the line, but given Pepi’s ability and potential, one West Ham should be all over, especially as he could be an upgrade on Castellanos & Pablo.
How Pepi compares to Castellanos & Pablo
Now, the first thing to say is that Pepi is currently out with a fractured arm, but is expected to be back in action at the end of March, which means he could still have a sizable say on West Ham’s relegation battle, should they sign him, that is.
With that said, the first place to start when comparing strikers has to be their raw output, and this is an area in which the 23-year-old has his potential new teammates beaten, and comfortably so.
For example, since the start of last season, the American international has scored 28 goals and provided five assists in 50 appearances, totalling 2037 first-team minutes.
That comes out to a really quite impressive average of a goal involvement every 1.51 games, or every 61.72 minutes, which more than justifies talent scout Jacek Kulig’s description of him being “incredibly prolific.”
In contrast, Castellanos has scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists in 56 appearances, totalling 4198 minutes.
That comes out to a decent, but certainly less impressive average of a goal involvement every other game, or every 149.93 minutes.
Finally, Pablo has scored 15 goals and provided one assist in 41 appearances, totaling 2175 minutes.

Another area in which the PSV star outshines the Hammers’ two new recruits is international football.
For example, the former FC Dallas star has won 34 senior caps for the United States, in which he has scored 13 goals and provided three assists.
In stark contrast, the former Lazio man has only made two appearances for Argentina, in which he has not scored a goal, while the former Gil Vicente star has not won a senior cap at all.
Ultimately, West Ham have done well to bring in two attackers this month, but if they really want to stave off relegation, they should look to bring in one more, someone who is more of a goal threat, someone like Pepi, even if he will only have two months or so to work his magic
